PROBLEM ONE: Walking tour
STEAM the Museum is an exhibition that sees junior curators from the Opportunity Class at Sturt Public School solve a real problem that the Museum of the Riverina has.
These problems were shown to the class at our first session. Each student then elected their top three problems to work on, and was placed into a group.
Changing Streetscapes – Then and Now
Problem
The Museum of the Riverina needs a walking app to showcase some of the historic buildings and places of Wagga Wagga. The app should not only show buildings, but tell interesting stories about different places. The app should use images, short movies and other media from local archival collections. The stories told should reflect the diverse history and people from Wagga Wagga’s past.
Route: The walking route should start and end at the Historic Council Chambers museum site. It should take no more than 40 minutes to complete. The tour should also not be dangerous or involve crossing the street in unsafe locations.
Node parameters: The tour needs to have written text for each node of no more than 300 words. Audio should go for no longer than 90 seconds. There should be a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 5 images or media for each node. The nodes should be no more than a 5 minute walk (your pace) to the next stop.
This group will need to write a brochure to promote the tour and provide instructions on how to access it.
Options: Augmented reality, quizzes, interactive features, treasure/scavenger hunt, and specialised content to unlock.
This group will also need to include a small exhibit to display in the exhibition. They may want to show objects, framed images or a combination.
