Steel axe head with engraved inscription on front. 

The inscription reads:

COLLINS ? STEEL
HARTFORD WARRANTED
H LECTIMUS A
H.F. WALKER
J.B. MACGOVERN
ON THE TRACK
WAGGA WAGGA
TO
ROCKHAMPTON
N.S.WALES
QUEENSLAND
1905'.

There is also an engraved motif above 'LECTIMUS'. 

This axe head commemorates expedition made up of two men, H.F. Walker and J.B. MacGovern, who walked from Wagga Wagga to Rockhampton, Queensland in 1905.  It was originally held in the collection of the Tamworth Historical Society, who kindly donated it to the Museum of the Riverina. 

The Museum is still trying to ascertain who Walker and MacGovern were, and what the story is behind this unusual object.
