Meet the rare Brown & May Steam Portable Engine, 1889 which can be found at the Tumut Museum. Both this and the 1923 Steam Engine featured on this film provided power on the farm before the small stationary oil engine took over in the early 20th century. Portable engines were mounted on wheels and had to be moved from place to place by 3-4 horses. They were used for a variety of jobs on farms into the late 1950s.
