"Fiery Geelong forward Cameron Mooney is set to take a unique, but unwelcome, place in AFL/VFL history after being handed a record fourth suspension." The Sydney Morning Herald, 21 August 2006
Cameron was born on 26 September 1979 in Wagga Wagga. While a student at Mount Austin High School, he began playing football with the Turvey Park Football Club, and later represented the NSW/ACT RAMS in the TAC Cup for players under 18 years.
Pick 56 of the 1996 Draft took seventeen year old Cameron from Wagga Wagga to the North Melbourne Football Club. Three years later, he broke into the side to play eleven games, including the Grand Final, at only nineteen years of age.
In 2000 Cameron was traded to the Geelong Cats, where he established himself as a valuable mobile ruckman and forward, proving integral to the rise of the club over the next ten years.
Cameron was lead goal kicker for Geelong in 2007, and he won his second Premiership medal, kicking five goals in the Grand Final. He was selected for the All-Australian team that same year. In 2008 he was selected in the Dream Team Australian Representative team for the AFL Hall of Fame tribute match celebrating 150 years of the AFL.
In 2009 he was again a member of Geelong's Premiership team, and Cameron won his third AFL Premiership in four Grand Final appearances. His 200th game came late in the 2010 season.
In 2011 Cameron announced his retirement from AFL football, drawing the curtain on an incredible career spanning 221 games, 297 goals and three Premierships.
In recent years Cameron has seamlessly transitioned from on-field success to a prominent media career. He is a commentator on TV as host of Fox Footy's AFL 360, on radio with SEN 1116 and CrocMedia, and in print as a columnist for the Geelong Advertiser.
