About the workshop
Telling Family Stories Through Photos is an informative workshop designed to help you share and pass on the stories behind your photographs in meaningful and lasting ways.
Led by an experienced curator from the Museum of the Riverina, this session explores how photographs can be used to tell personal and family histories with strong historical value. You’ll be introduced to practical approaches, prompts and resources that help you identify important details, add context and shape stories that can be understood and appreciated by future generations.
Rather than focusing on practical handling, this workshop centres on ideas, examples and guidance for recording memories, organising information and choosing what to share.
In this workshop you will:
- Learn why photographs are important historical records
- Discover ways to tell clear, engaging family stories through photos
- Explore prompts and questions that help draw out memories
- Learn how to add context, dates and details to increase historical value
- Be introduced to tools and resources for recording and preserving stories
- Creative ways to capture and display your photos and memories
Participants are welcome to bring a tablet or laptop to take notes and explore resources during the session.
This workshop is ideal for anyone wanting to pass on their memories, family history and life stories through photographs in a thoughtful and meaningful way.
This workshop is part of a three-part series presented alongside STUFF: 100 Wild, Weird and Wonderful Objects from the Museum of the Riverina Collection.
