About the Exhibition

What does it mean to stand at the edge of the world's last great wilderness and to feel responsible for it?

ICE PACT is an exhibition and educational project that blends art, science, and personal experience into a compelling call for environmental stewardship. It is inspired by industrial chemist Jorg Metz, who served as laboratory manager at Casey Station, Antarctica, during the summer of 2011/12.

At its heart is a collection of over 30 works of art, each acknowledging the enigmatic and pristine wilderness of Antarctica. Through this lens, ICE PACT explores the Antarctic Treaty System, the landmark 1959 agreement that now unites 56 nations in the protection of the continent. It also highlights the urgent need to extend that protection to the Southern Ocean, now increasingly threatened by climate change and human activity.

By leveraging the power of creativity and knowledge, this exhibition aims to inspire a collective commitment to the conservation and sustainable management of the Southern Ocean, ensuring its vitality for generations to come.
