Sport: Cycling
Year Inducted: 2017

Wagga Wagga cyclist Paul Fellows found success in cycling at a young age, competing at both a national and international junior level. He has represented Australia at several cycling events in both Australia and overseas.

In 2007, Paul won silver at the Oceania Track Cycling Championships in New Zealand, and bronze at the Junior World Kierin Championship.

Paul’s results and achievements did not ‘just happen’, they happened because of his commitment, talent, integrity and constant drive for himself and those he helps to be the best they can be

At the age of seventeen, Paul dominated at the 2008 Under 19 Track Championships in Sydney, taking home three gold medals and breaking several records along the way. His first individual gold medal at the Australian titles was in the Under 19 Sprint Crown. He claimed another individual medal with his win in the keirin, then went on to set a new Australian Championship record in the team sprint alongside teammates Scott Law and Peter Lewis.

Following this success, Paul was named in the national team to travel to South Africa for the Junior World Track Championships, held in July 2008. At this event, he became a Junior World individual bronze medallist, and the only member of the Australian team to return home with an individual medal.

Most impressively, all these amazing achievements occurred during Paul’s final year of school at Mater Dei Catholic College, where he was working towards his HSC!

Further success came at the Australian National Track Championships in 2009 and 2010, where Paul placed third and second respectively in the team sprint event.

Paul retired from cycling in 2012, but for many years continued to be involved in the sport as a member of the Wagga Wagga Cycling Club. Locally, he coached junior riders to State Championship level, while in Canberra, he coached veteran cyclist Daniel Rickard in competing at the Veteran World Track Cycling Championships.

Today, Paul still calls Wagga Wagga home.
